Same course, times, info. as last year. Please join us, will be great! Thank you in advance for your support.

TOC hitting the climb and part of the course we use for districts... adds to the flavor!

Why are states held in June?
Why not earlier in the season like May or even late April. Most people have already been racing for 3 months at that time and the conditions would be perfect for a race rather than absolutely oppressive. I really liked the course and the race was great but I think that race would be incredible with 80 degree temps.

Maybe next year?

It is very difficult to select a date in May. There are already established races earlier in the month (Barrio Logan, San Luis Rey, TT and TTT champs) and then you start getting into the Amgen Tour of California taking up the middle of the month.

The ATOC is the biggest "culprit here". The promoters of the State Champs were also key players with the Local Organizing Committee in Bakersfield for the finish of Stage 5. Four of the primary officials are also working the ATOC. Lastly, racing against the final weekend of the ATOC proved to be something the promoters this year had wish they hadn't done.

May is also no guarantee that the weather is going to be any better. Two days after the Tour left Big Bear Lake, the temp dropped 40 degrees and it snowed!

We've had good weather in 2008 and 2009.

The Bakersfield course is a good course and we'd be fools to lose it. We've seen a lot of good road and circuit races disappear in the past 3 years.

The heat is a part of racing. Yeah it sucks, but I'd rather see Districts stay in Bakersfield on that weekend as opposed to moving it to April and or combining states with an existing RR like Boulevard, Devils Punchbowl (ugh-never again; and yes I'm aware it was Districts once), or San Luis Rey.

Our season is slooowwwly migrating the way of Arizona and we should be afraid of that. And road races and circuit races are disappearing and we should be afraid of that too.

What do you mean migrating the way of Arizona. How are things out there?

I agree on the road and circuit race thing. Maybe any CR or SR should get priority on the calendar, as long as they pay a hefty deposit to reserve the spot and loose it if they don't come through. The deposit can be used for something better to benefit the clubs that do come through.

I've been telling racing team members of LaGrange that I am going to eliminate Bakersfield/State Road Race championships as a target race from now on. It was put in place as an emergency replacement for Vandenberg like 5 years ago. It's idiotic to have a road race in the central valley in June. The course is great, but it should either be moved up to April or back to October. Plus there's much bigger races like Mt. Hood and Tulsa Tough the same weekend that make more sense to go to.

Think about before Vandenberg when we use to call them "district" championships. Remember Lancaster, Porterville, Woody, and for the guys down south, Boulevard. All district courses. All in June. All grueling conditions. Not everyone in SoCal can live and train near the coast, so we shouldn't try to change or boycott races because they don't simulate coastal conditions. June is a good date since it is essentially mid-season. Good luck with October. We used to race through October, but you can't even get promotors to put on September races anymore. And it would fall outside the socalcup "season".
I didn't do Bakersfield last year because of Tulsa, but the two years prior the Masters race was run in cool conditions on Saturday and then it warmed up for Sunday. You can't blame the promotor for that. Tulsa Tough in June? Very hot and very humid. The two La Grange riders I saw at Tulsa this year wouldn't have been able to ride the SCNCA championships anyway. Two years ago, Tulsa and SCNCA champs didn't conflict and they may not in 2011 since Tulsa has changed their dates.

Should the District Road Championship race be held in Bakersfiels again, two requests: (1) Move course to the one used in last years April RR. The race needs to be more challenging. And (2) PLEASE make 50+ and 55+ at minimum 50 miles as 31 miles is an insult.

No body respects the 50+ until they BECOME 50+
