| My wife and I are headed down to SF valley area tomorrow and are looking for a Turkey Day ride. It's tradition up here in Santa Rosa to duke it out on the local big climb when everyone's supposed to be out of shape. Anything similar down south? |

If you know of good Turkey Day rides in your area post those here.
I am getting some requests from riders (like above) that are looking to burn some calories while visting SoCal and enjoying Thanksgiving.
I do know of a mountain bike ride in my area that starts at the top of Mt. Baldy that goes down the Sunset trail to La Verne. I think it starts at 8 am and it starts at the trail near the parking lot at the end of Glendora Ridge Road.
I have never done it in all my years, but heard it's really fun. If anyone has more details please let us know.

There is a ride leaving Sierra Madre Thursday morning at 8am.
starting at Sierra Vista Park 611 E Sierra Madre Blvd
Sierra Madre (between Baldwin and Santa Anita) - meet in the parking lot
The ride will do a reverse Montrose route to hwy 39, climb up to East Fork, take East Fork to the backside of Glendora Mountain Road and down GMR back to Sierra Madre.
The ride is associated with people from PAA, but as far as I know it's open to everyone. |

Turkey Day Ride , aka Turkey Trot,
This is a mountain bike ride! starts at the entrance of Turnbull Canyon in Whittier, X-Streets- Beverly and Painter, Park on Beverly just east of Painter... The ride goes from Turnbull Canyon to Schabarum Park and back, distance is about 20 miles roundtrip, Lots of Hills as much UP as there is down, plenty of areas to cut out if it becomes to difficult, Riders leave promptly at 8am, A few groups usually form- fastest to not so fastest... so all levels usually sort themselves out and end up at the turn around to start the ride back from the park... HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!! |

| You can just ride Mulholland west from Las Virgenes and piece together hills as you see fit. That's what i do every time i visit my folks. There always seems to be a few riders out. |

CA Pools Racing is Climbing Mount Palomar from Temecula
Thanksgiving 8.00am November 27th Palomar Mountain (Very Hilly)
Meeting at the parking lot on Meadows/Apis, Temecula, at 7.30 am if you wish to car pool to Hwy 76. Meeting at 7.00am if you want to ride down Pala Grade and risk the narrow shoulders on Hwy 76 east. Meeting at 8.00am at Jilberto’s restaurant on the South side of Hwy 79.
Ride east on hwy 76 for about three miles then the climbing starts, take the left turn Palomar Mountain Road, ride till your legs are toasted. Hopefully you will be at the top. Turn left to the store and continue on to the observation telescope. Return to the store and turn left for the long ride down the east grade and back up again. Cross the intersection and continue on the long fourteen mile descent, careful right onto the highway 76, and continue down, and along to Jilberto’s. |

Here's a few Thanksgiving Day Rides that were forwarded to me.
Mount Baldy to San Dimas – Mountain Bike Ride
The ride starts at the Cow Canyon Saddle (near where GMR and Mt. Baldy Road meet) at 8 am, then gathers at another saddle 2 miles up for a brief Thanksgiving celebration. The ride then "flys" down the Sunset Ridge and regroups at the bottom, at the top of Wheeler in San Dimas. Some riders ride up the Sunset Ridge trail from the top of Wheeler or ride up Mt. Baldy Road and meet up there, but most drive up, and are picked up at the bottom.
Velo Allegro Ride
The Velo Allegro Ride rides from Long Beach to Whittier, then screams back to Long Beach in long time tradition! The ride starts at 7:30 at the Marina parking lot near PCH and 2nd Street in Long Beach and has 2 rest stops. The ride returns at approximately 11:30 am.
58th Annual M*G*E Racing/SDBC Turkey Ride & Hunt
The San Diego Bicycle Club and Ralph Elliott, organize the 58th Annual M*G*E Racing/SDBC Turkey Ride & Hunt to Elfin Forest on Thanksgiving Day; 60 miles, No fee, No patch, No sag, just a good "old fashion fun ride"- and a great way to get ready to pig- out later in the day! The ride starts at 8:30am sharp from the La Jolla Village Square, UC Cyclery, Nobel Dr. off the I-5, and goes up the coast highway to La Costa, thru Elfin Forest, into Escondido, and back over Lake Hoges, RB, Poway, and Miramar Rd to Finish at UC Cyclery. Please ride safely, obey all traffic laws and never more than "two on a breast!" The object is to hunt turkeys, not be one! Happy Thanksgiving!
Agoura Hills Area
The ride leaves from the Starbucks in Agoura Hills at the corner of Thousand Oaks Blvd and Kanan at 8:00. The ride is about 40 miles with some rollers and a small climb with a regroup at the top of the climb.
