my girlfriend just moved to la crescenta, giving me quick and easy access to the riding in the angeles forest. i followed a couple friends around once up there but my experience is practically nil.
looking at the map, i see several interesting possibilities, with angeles crest, big/little tujunga, placerita canyon, soledad canyon, etc.
(i've also become intrigued by glendora ridge road, which caught my attention while driving through mt. baldy.)
anyway, wondering first if there are any particular dangerous stretches up there (i'll be riding weekend mornings) but also soliciting any general feedback about the riding up in them thar hills.
thanks. |

I've ridden BigT/LittleT a few times and I don't remember it being unsafe or many cars.
Glendora (GMR) is closed to traffic now (the gate is down and locked at the bottom) and is safe. However, I was up there a month ago and there was a ranger truck and 2 motorcycles, so I'd still keep your eyes open as far as using the whole road. Be careful if you come down GMR too. I have encountered a few cars on my side of the road coming around a switch back that have gotten my adrenaline going pretty good. If you come down Baldy there is more traffic and it is pretty steep in a few sections where you can hit 40-50 mph, so keep your eyes open for rocks. It is a straight descent with no switchbacks, unless you go up to the ski lifts. Both descents are lots of fun!
They are all awesome and beautiful rides and would definately recommend them! |
